Dr. Sagar S Thorat
Biography :
Sagar was born and raised in a small farm-village in western peninsular region of India (Chinchani (Ambak), Sangli District, Maharashtra). He received master’s degree in organic chemistry (with Gold Madel) from the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University and worked on his master’s thesis with Professor Raghunath Bhosale on a multicomponent reaction to access new nitrogen heterocyclic compounds. After that Sagar joined Dr Kontham’s research group as a doctoral student with a prestigious CSIR-JRF fellowship in 2015 (all India rank-50 in National-Level Ph.D. entrance examination), where he earned his PhD in November 2021. During his dissertation study, Sagar designed stereoselective synthesis of biologically potent natural products and the development of novel synthetic methodologies involving transition metal salts catalyzed cascade/domino reactions of alkynols and keto-esters. Currently, he began his postdoctoral studies as a postdoctoral scholar with Professor Mukund Sibi at the North Dakota State University (NDSU) in November 2022. At NDSU, Sagar led a team that developed a practical and general approach for synthesizing biobased sustainable monomers.
